Angelina Jolie gave her man Brad Pitt a waterfall (yes, a real waterfall!) as a present. Talk about off the wall, unique gift-giving!

Happy Memorial Day!

One thing we can do is remember these heroes as you remember them -- not just as a rank, or a number, or a name on a headstone, but as Americans, often far too young, who were guided by a deep and abiding love for their families, for each other, and for this country--President Obama (excerpt from Memorial Day 2012 speech at Arlington National Cemetery)

Happy (Holiday) Weekend

Happy Weekend! Have you arrived at the beach yet? I must admit, I am pretty jealous for everyone lounging at the beach this weekend. Enjoy!

If you are at the beach or some other destination, be sure to pick up a small gift for those that couldn't join you (oh, woe is me!) like a box of salt water taffy or a little sand in a bottle. Yes, these gifts are a little cheesy but it screams "beach" and who cares? On a non-cheesy note, one thing that I like to do at the beach is pick up seashells while walking along the beach. When I get home, I place in a clear vase to remember my trip all year long! You should try it...it's one of those free gifts:)

If you aren't at the beach...here are a few other options:

Go on a shopping spree for Memorial Day. There are many sales at local boutiques and stores. Take advantage of these deals and stock up your gift closet.
Lay out at the pool with your bestie. Don't forget to bring the gift of poolside fun: snacks, music, sunscreen and water!

Find a rooftop and enjoy the view! If you are in Charlotte, try one of the uptown condos....they all seem to have a great view of the city and some boast a pool too.

HoneeBee Gifts Featured in SouthPark Magazine (print edition)

Please pick up a copy of the June 2012 issue of SouthPark Magazine to see my Father's Day picks in the blvd. section. These ideas range in price and go from traditional to "hmmm, I didn't think about that". Some fathers may enjoy experiencing a Microbrews Cruise, while others prefer cologne.  My goal was to pick a gift for every type of father and make him smile. To pick up your copy of SouthPark Magazine, you can visit the following locations , as well as SouthPark Mall. If you are not in Charlotte, I believe you can browse the issue online by going to SouthPark Magazine's website, you will see the magazine image in the top right hand corner.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Gift Tip #102: Personalized Quote Cards

This gift tip is one I created myself  by putting together two of my favorite things: notecards (who doesn't love a handwritten note?) and quotes about life, love and simple inspiration. With this collaboration of my faves, I decided to create personalized notecards. I worked with a local stationary store on my concept: I wanted to have a few sayings that I had come across that spoke to me placed on a simple whitestock notecard. I wanted the sayings to "pop" off the page with color and various fonts. I thought the cards came out great! What do you think?

In this case, I was the recipient of the gift but so were others, as I gave out sets of the cards during my blog party,  to friends for their birthdays or "just because" and they were a hit. One of my friends said it was her best gift ever. Wowsers!

I encourage you to gift these to yourself and give out as small tokens of love/friendship....you know those gifts you leave on someone's pillow or surprise a friend with over lunch? These notecards would be perfect for that!

I can't get enough of Joya candles. I pick them up whenever I'm shopping at Neiman Marcus. Their Plume line is amazing. I'm constantly burning them around my house.

Gift Tip #101: Soda Bottle Flavored Lip Balms

These is like lipsmackers reincarnated! Remember those chapsticks from back in the day? Anyhoo, these balms are shaped like a normal soda bottle but are obviously not the same size-- they are a mere3.25" X 1" and smell just like the soda it represents. There are three flavors available: Mtn Dew, Wild Cherry Pepsi and Mtn Dew Code Red. This is a gift for the jokester girl, soda lover or it could be a fun gift for a kiddie slumber party goody bag...yes, I know that last one was a bit specific but hey that's how my mind works! Oh, and of course anyone with parched lips.

Experience: Charlotte Mag BOB Awards Party

Each year, Charlotte Magazine puts together the "best of the best" list that showcases...well...the best...the city has to offer in the areas of: dining, arts & culture, shopping, body & soul, nightlife and recreation. The list is put together by the writers and editors of the magazine which is apropos since they live and breathe all things Charlotte. To put the cherry on top, Charlotte Magazine has a party where some of the BOB winners are featured...and the general public can eat and drink a bit of what the experts have been raving about in the magazine. The party takes place on Thursday, May 17th at 6:30pm. In addition, to good eats and drinks, there will be music, prizes and an after party. This year's party will take place in the NC Music Factory Courtyard (the party will move indoors if it rains) and for the first time there will be an official after party at Butter NC.

After perusing the Charlotte Magazine issue, I noticed that some of my favorites were also the faves of Charlotte Magazine. I love being in good company:) Here are a few:
Upscale Patio Dining: The Dresslers (Midtown) and Vivace
Fish Market: Clean Catch
Lingerie: I.C. London
Sky High Workout: Flex and Fit

There's also a few I can't wait to try to see if it's true like:
Place for Cheap Drinks: Small Bar
Running Trail: 5K Course at McAlpine Creek Park
All Day Spot: Common Market

Bzzz: Be sure to pick up a copy of Charlotte Magazine (May issue) because not only does it list the current winners (some with pics), there is also an index and Hall of Fame of past winners. Also, be sure to check out the "Bracket Smackdown" and the 'Splurge or Steal" sections, both are new elements to the awards issue.

Sneak Peek: WCNC Interview on Mother's Day Gifts

Today I had the opportunity to share some of my gift ideas for Mother's Day on WCNC, NewsChannel 36. For those familiar with my blog, you know that I like to go beyond the gift card and today was no exception. I was able to highlight unique experiences/gifts from The Ritz Carlton-Charlotte, The Boulevard at South EndSavory Spice Shop and Polka Dot Bake Shop.  I hope to have video to share soon but in the meantime, here are a few pictures I took on set.  In addition, here is a post I shared earlier on my blog about these unique experiences/gifts.

Myself and News Anchor Dion Lim holding delicious cupcakes...we really wanted to eat them but we needed them for the news segment:)

The gift table is set--it's almost lights, camera, action time!

Gift Tip #100: Gucci Guilty Intense Pour Homme

The aroma of Gucci Guilty Intense Pour Homme is well...intense, in a great way. With a mixture of lemon, lavender, coriander, as well as amber, neroli and cedarwood scents one might question the combination but don’t, the scents come together quite nicely for a man who wants to smell fantastic. The 1.6 oz glass and metal bottle with the signature Gucci logo makes one daring, classy cologne for any lucky man in your life.

Giving the Gift of Art: try an up and coming artist

Recently, I had the opportunity to attend Studio Party 12: Sensory Explosion, an annual fundraising gala for the McColl Center for Visual Arts where many current students and alumni of the center shared their original artwork with over 300 guests. The artwork showcased was available for purchase that night and a wide variety of work was highlighted at the event. Being a lover of the arts, of course I enjoyed myself but it also got me thinking about art as a gift. If you know an art lover, an original piece of work from an up and coming artist would be such a special gift.  During Studio Party 12, many artists were present at the event to discuss their work and many purchases were made. To read more about the Studio Party 12 event, please see my full article via Charlotte Style Magazine, where I go into more details, as well as share a few photos.

It was one of the most laid back fundraising events I have been too in quite some time. In addition, the event gave artists exposure, allowed attendees access to new works and the artists themselves. While we are lucky to have the McColl Center for Visual Arts in Charlotte, as well as the Studio Party 12 special event, there are many other events and options for connecting with local artists. Some routes include connecting through traditional art galleries, visiting  an artist's site via Etsy or maybe even eBay.

As I always say, art is very personal so when you are making such a purchase, please be sure to know your giftee and what he/she may like most.
